Buck 'n' Roll - Prototype 0.0.3
Here's a new update which implements the ability to play any song regardless of BPM changes and implemented a new GUI feature to show a song's metadata.
ADDED:
- New GUI element on the gameplay screen that will show the name of the artist and the song being played, parsed from a .txt file within the track's .zip.
MODIFIED:
- The MIDI parser has been updated to allow to play songs with tempo changes. This makes Guitar Hero Live charts also compatible with this game.
- No longer do you need to input an .ogg and a .midi file separately, you must now only open a .zip file which contains both files, and a .txt file.
- Now, for a song to play, a .txt file must be included alongside the .ogg and .midi files; it will contain some very basic metadata about the song, namely the artist's name and the title of the track. The new .zip for "Dangerous Duck" includes said file. Currently, it's not necessary for the file to have any text (it will default to "Unknown" if it can't find the necessary metadata), but it is nonetheless required.
KNOWN BUGS:
- If the player opens and closes the file select window without selecting a file, then carries out the gameplay process correctly, notes will appear duplicated.
- Opening a .zip with multiple .midi, .ogg or .ini files will use the first file it parses alphabetically and ignore all others.
- The transparent space spanning Buck's sprite in the main menu can be clicked, which is a bit awkward.
- If the player interacts with the clock in the main menu using the arrow keys and keeps them pressed, it'll cause it to bug out and the animation to be spammed.
- Switching the time on the clock in the main menu with the keyboard won't change the room's texture.
- Trying to turn the lights on/off with the keyboard in the main menu doesn't work, even though the light switch's texture changes.
- Midi notes that don't have a "0" duration in the .midi file value will cause desynchronization due to how the note delays are calculated.
- Switching tabs/windows or losing focus on the game will halt the flow of notes, and will then release them all simultaneously.
- While not necessarily a bug, turning the lights off shadows the entire screen, including all text.
- While not necessarily a bug, the transition to gameplay can take a few seconds to load if the note array is too large. This is an optimization issue that should be fixed.
I will soon update the game again (hopefully) to add a screen that will allow you to return to the main menu after a song is done, or to cancel a song and return back. I also intend to add other functions, including the possibility to fail a song, touch-screen/mouse support and customizable controls.
Not only that, but I will also make new songs available soon, both originals and covers of already-existing music. Meanwhile, you can use Chorus Encore to search for Guitar Hero Live songs that should, theoretically, be playable in this game too.
